Olympus Mp3 Voice Recorder
Speed for recording a speech?

I’m recording a speech, and I want to upload it as an MP3. Does it matter what speed I record it at? Should it be at highest quality, or will that take too much space?

I’m using an Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS-321M if it matters.

The highest quality is not necessarily needed for recording speech, depending on what you intend to do with it. In my radio days in the days of tape we used the highest speed for recording music to insure that we maintained fidelity. But we most often used the slower speed for voice recording. Voice patterns fall into the middle range of frequencies we hear, as opposed to the extreme high frequencies of a cymbal or the extreme low frequencies of a bass drum or tuba for example. Save space – record slower, just maybe not the slowest speed it’s capable of…

Hope this helps!
